WHY drink water?

I ask every patient that comes in Zimmerman Chiropractic office, “Are you drinking enough water on a daily basis?”  90 percent of the time I get a quick yes.  I then ask the patient how many ounces are you drinking in a day? I get a response from most of my patients anywhere from 20 ounces to maybe 60 ounces at the most.  It has been said to drink half your weight in ounces a day, so you can imagine the looks I get from my patients.   Your body is composed up of 70 % water.  The functions of these bodily fluids include but are not limited to digestion, absorption, circulation, and creation saliva.  I’m going to list a few reasons why you should drink water daily:

  1. WEIGHT LOSS- helps replace high calorie drinks with a drink that doesn’t have any calories.  Drinking water helps suppress your appetite; because many times when we think we are hungry we are actually thirsty.  Water has no FAT, no CALORIES, no CARBS, and no SUGAR.  So drinking plenty of water helps your weight loss regimen.
  2. ENERGY- Drinking the adequate amount of water will help keep you energized.  Being dehydrated can sap your energy and make you feel tired.  If you are thirsty you are already dehydrated.
  3. HEALTHY SKIN- drinking water can clear up your skin and people often report a healthy glow after drinking water.  It doesn’t happen overnight, but in a week you should notices some changes.
  4. CLEANSING- Water is used by the body to help flush out the toxins and waste from the body.
  5. DIGESTION- Our digestive systems need a good amount of water to digest the food properly.   Water along with fiber can help with constipation.  When you don’t get enough fluid the colon pulls water from stools to maintain hydration and the result is constipation.
